Ken Burns Effect

Conceived as a retreat for retiring parents and their young son, the Inverted Courtyard House reinterprets the traditional courtyard home by turning the void into its central protagonist. The design responds simply and sensitively to site, climate, and lifestyle — organizing all spaces to welcome natural light while shielding from heat.

The living areas open toward calm, green interiors, nurturing a slower rhythm of life, while the recreational wing sits apart near the entrance, connected by a slender metal bridge over a landscaped courtyard. This inverted courtyard acts both as separator and connector — a spatial pause that unites architecture, landscape, and light into one cohesive experience.

Balanced between openness and intimacy, the house reflects a thoughtful transition — from the bustle of past routines to a quieter, more grounded way of living.
